September is a month full of excitement, especially for the higher education sector. Many college campuses unveil renovations that were diligently worked on throughout the summer season, while university students find themselves acclimating to their new class schedules.
Here at The Refinishing Touch, we’ve provided our on-site furniture asset management services to a variety of campuses – including Florida State University, the University of Kentucky, Georgetown University, among many others. Our work included refinishing existing furniture assets with low VOC lacquers and reupholstering pieces using our fabric collections from Touch Textiles, giving college dormitories a sleeker and more contemporary look.
Investing in furniture asset management is just one of the many sustainable initiatives colleges have taken. Increasing the number of recycling receptacles, growing plants in a campus greenhouse and removing plastic containers from cafeterias are some examples of the environmentally-conscious efforts.
One of our latest blog poll questions reached out to our readers and asked them to rank what they considered to be the most important sustainable higher education initiatives. Respondents seemed to have agreed that an increase in recycling bins was the best and most effective option colleges have invested in, with sustainable dining initiatives coming in at a close second.
