Healy Hall of Georgetown University, Washington DC, USAWhen summer comes around and students head home, college campuses come to life in a new way – downtime for students is go-time for campus officials and facility managers.

When presented with the opportunity to revamp Harbin Hall last summer, one of the most popular buildings located in Georgetown University’s Alumni Park, the Georgetown staff explored options that would help us stay in line with our budget, time and sustainability objectives. Ultimately, we chose The Refinishing Touch and its refinishing and re-upholstery services.

Having received estimates from various furniture asset management organizations, The Refinishing Touch was the only one to offer on-site, timely and efficient services with low-VOC lacquers, eco-friendly materials and an appealing price tag.

Throughout the course of just over a week, The Refinishing Touch upcycled love seats, arm chairs, lounge chairs and sofas, including assets currently in storage, that will be used when active pieces become worn and need refinishing.

In the end, Georgetown was able to reduce expenditure an estimated 55%, create beautiful, like-new public spaces, and gain a boost in green ratings and the ability to reallocate budget to other projects. Having worked with The Refinishing Touch in the past, the Alumni Park project reminded us of the benefits of furniture asset management. We look forward to spending many more summers with the company in the future.
