Starwood expands Element hotel chain and further raises green standards industry wide

With an extensive background in hospitality renovations, construction and most importantly, sustainability, The Refinishing Touch has a constant eye out for new initiatives, projects or announcements in the industry.

Recently, Starwood Hotels & Resorts announced an impending addition to its eco-wise hotel chain, Element. The new location in Orlando, Florida, joins a growing family of 25 establishments in the US, Canada, China, Germany and Oman. Element hotels are ‘built green from the ground up’ and provide the perfect option for environmentally-conscious travelers.

Hotel corridorWhile these hotels are being built brand new, they are quickly becoming popular choices for tourists, which will ultimately lead to the need to upgrade furniture assets. The process of purchasing new pieces is inherently detrimental to the environment – pieces must be ordered, shipped and the old ones must be disposed of.

With processes such as refinishing, reupholstery and remanufacturing, green hotels can extend the life of its pieces, improve design aesthetics and cut costs all while eliminating unnecessary landfill waste and drastically reducing carbon emissions.

We are pleased each time Starwood breaks ground on another Elements hotel and hope to work with them on the many renovation and PIPs in their future.
