Blog poll result: A breakdown of furniture purchasing considerations by industry

The Refinishing Touch blog poll: Sustainability /green questionsWelcome back to our weekly blog poll wrap-up. We look forward to this as our weekly poll provides us to learn more about our readers and the industries in which we invest our business.

As a company with a vested interest in furniture and facility maintenance, we set out to learn more about buying behaviors and key considerations for purchasing decisions across industries.

When those in the higher education industry were asked, ‘What do you look for when purchasing furniture assets?’ the responses were split: 25% said quality, 25% said cost, 25% said comfort and a final 25% said aesthetics. We were surprised to discover that in a sector increasingly dedicated to environmental awareness, 0% said sustainability was a factor in furniture replacement.

Needless to say, these responses intrigued us. A key mission of The Refinishing Touch is to raise awareness and action as it pertains to sustainability and furniture asset management. Over the following two weeks, we surveyed readers in our other target sectors – hospitality and government – to compare.

The results of both were the same – 0% selected sustainability as a deciding factor in furniture replacement. 66% of hoteliers cited quality while 66% of military housing managers cited cost.

With The Refinishing Touch’s services, hoteliers, government executives and campus facilities staff alike obtain quality, cost-effective and comfortable, like-new assets. It’s important to note however, that the sustainable benefits of furniture asset management are also imperative to a greener future. With low-VOC lacquers, eco-friendly materials – such as our Embrace recycled leather – carbon reductions and the eradication of harmful landfill waste, refinishing is the environmentally responsible option for these sectors.
