“Many states can offer financial incentives to attract business, but the environment is what set this area apart,” said KR Sridhar, the CEO of Bloom Energy about the brand-new lab at the University of Delaware.
The Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Laboratory is remarkable in a variety of ways, but the environmental consciousness of the project is what caught the attention of the crew here at The Refinishing Touch.
A project of this size – the building is around 194,000 square feet – can have detrimental impacts on the environment, but the University of Delaware has made sure the ISE lab was constructed with the greener good in mind.
The building makes effective use of natural light, is ENERGY STAR rated and its environmentally-friendly construction complements its purpose to offer an innovative space for students and faculty to pursue academic research.
As an establishment, the University of Delaware carries initiatives much farther than its newest on-campus building. With sustainability-related coursework available and the ‘Sustainable University of Delaware’ website, resources are available for students, staff, parents and community members to see what is being done on-campus, educate themselves and get involved.
In our experience, higher education facilities can reduce carbon emissions, eradicate harmful landfill waste and even cuts costs by employing processes such as furniture asset management – the act of refinishing, remanufacturing or re-upholstering existing pieces.
As providers of sustainable services to colleges and universities throughout North America, we are pleased to see large-scale, eco-friendly projects come to fruition, and look forward to seeing how the University of Delaware handles renovations of the ISE lab furniture and assets in the future.
